Job Summary
Brooklyn Veterinary Hospital seeks a passionate Small Animal Veterinarian (full- or part-time) to join its welcoming team. Located in northeastern Connecticut’s Last Green Valley National Heritage Corridor, the hospital offers a scenic, nature-filled setting with easy access to Boston, Providence, and Hartford.
In this role, you will provide comprehensive medical care for companion animals, supporting their health, comfort, and well-being. Our state-of-the-art hospital delivers high-quality care through a comprehensive laboratory, advanced radiology facilities—including a dedicated dental X-ray unit—ultrasonography, and modern surgical suites. Experience working with companion animals is essential, and proficiency in surgical procedures is highly valued.

Requirements
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough examinations and diagnose health issues in small animals, including dogs, cats, and exotic pets.
- Perform medical procedures such as vaccinations, laboratory testing, dental care, and minor surgeries with precision and adherence to aseptic techniques.
- Administer anesthesia safely during surgical procedures and monitor animal physiology throughout critical care interventions.
- Utilize veterinary terminology accurately when communicating diagnoses and treatment plans to clients.
- Handle animals with care using proper restraint techniques; manage catheterization, husbandry, and grooming as needed.
- Assist in emergency medicine cases by providing critical & intensive care, managing internal medicine issues like cardiology and oncology.
- Maintain detailed medical records, follow clinical ethical guidelines, and ensure compliance with veterinary standards of practice.
- Communicate effectively with pet owners about treatment options, prognosis, and preventive care strategies to promote animal health and owner satisfaction.
Qualifications.
- Veterinary degree from an accredited institution with valid licensure to practice veterinary medicine.
- Proven veterinary experience with small animals; familiarity with exotic animal medicine is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, internal medicine, surgery, dentistry, cardiology, oncology, and critical care practices.
- Proficiency in animal restraint, anesthesiology (including general anesthesia), laboratory procedures, and aseptic technique.
- Excellent animal handling skills for dogs, cats, and other small species; experience with pet grooming and animal catheterization is desirable.
- Ability to communicate complex veterinary concepts clearly to clients while demonstrating professionalism and ethical integrity.
- Skills in emergency medicine management and veterinary critical care experience are highly valued.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development in veterinary medicine, including staying current with clinical and ethical guidelines.
