Description
Associate Veterinarian
Pet Dominion
15820 Redland Road, Rockville, MD 20855
$120,000 to $160,000 base plus production. Our associates have earned over $180,000.
4 days a week. No on call. 30 minute appointments.
Pet Dominion is privately owned and has been for a long time. Our medical director, Dr. Lance Brody, owns the practice and sees his own cases in the building every week. When you want a second set of eyes on a radiograph, he is ten feet away. When you want to change a protocol, you talk to the person who can actually change it.
The numbers, up front
Up to 4 technicians per doctor, on the floor, with you.
30 minute appointments. Time to work a case up properly and time to talk to the client.
2 hours of scheduled catch up time, in addition to a 1 hour lunch
4 days a week, rotating short Saturdays. No on call, no overnight emergency, no after hours. Our doctors average 30 to 40 hours a week. Work life balance is not a phrase we put in job ads and forget about. It is the reason the schedule is built this way.
The work
Dogs and cats. Wellness and preventive care, dentistry, advanced soft tissue surgery, diagnostics and imaging, echocardiography and ultrasound, acupuncture, and canine rehabilitation.
Our surgical focus is soft tissue and we go well beyond routine. For orthopedics, a boarded surgeon comes to us for TPLOs and similar cases, so if you want to scrub in and learn from a specialist without leaving the building, that door is open.
Equipment includes practice wide digital radiography, a full array of dental tools, ultrasound, CO2 surgical laser, cold therapy laser, PulseVet shockwave, and a full in house laboratory.
We are built around learning
This is the part we are proudest of. We run case rounds and topic rounds. The DVM team collaborates daily and consults each other constantly. Nobody here works a hard case alone unless they want to.
Between our rehabilitation department, our surgical caseload, echocardiography, acupuncture, and a visiting boarded surgeon, the range of experience available in one building is something very few general practices can offer. We will train you in it.
If you are a new graduate: we have mentored multiple new grads through their first years and we take it seriously. You are paired one on one with an experienced doctor for real clinical and surgical support, not just a phone number to call when something goes wrong. Your schedule starts lighter and builds as you get comfortable. We would rather invest two years in someone properly than rush it.
If you want to own a practice someday, tell us. Dr. Brody is glad to mentor doctors on the business side, not just the medicine. That is not something most employers will sit down and teach you.
What we have that most general practices do not
A real rehabilitation department. Not a laser in a closet. Underwater treadmill, land treadmill, PulseVet shockwave, therapy laser, therapeutic ultrasound, e stim, and manual therapy. Every rehab patient gets a full hour for the first visit with a doctor assessment, stance analysis, thermal imaging, and baseline measurements we track over time. Our lead rehab specialist is a CCRA and has run this program since 2014, and our medical director is CCRP. If canine rehabilitation interests you, there is very little we cannot teach you here.
Acupuncture. One of our doctors is a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist through Chi University.
Lodging and daycare on site. We see the same patients for medicine, lodging, and daycare. We know these animals and these families in a way a standalone hospital does not.
Accreditations
AAHA accredited. Fear Free certified. Cat Friendly certified. Newsweek named us one of America's Best Animal Hospitals in 2025. We have also been recognized by Best of Bethesda, Washington Family Readers' Choice, and Nextdoor Neighborhood Favorite.
Accreditation is not a plaque here. It is why our protocols are written down and why our medicine is consistent from doctor to doctor.
Compensation and benefits
- Base salary of $120,000 to $160,000, depending on experience
- Production at 20 to 22 percent based on experience, with no negative accrual. Our associates have earned over $180,000.
- Sign on bonus, structured how you want it. Some people want cash. Some would rather we fund a certification they have been putting off. Tell us what would actually help you and we will build it that way.
- Health insurance including dental and vision, and we pay your deductible
- 401k with a 4 percent match
- Three weeks of paid time off, plus real flexibility. Because the schedule runs 4 days a week, we can usually build a full week away without it costing you much PTO at all. We have not turned down a time off request in years!
- $2,000 annual continuing education allowance plus paid CE days. Our vets love going to VMX and WVC.
- Maryland license, DEA registration, and professional dues paid
- Professional liability coverage
- Discounted veterinary care and lodging for your own pets
