Position Summary
Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center (OPVMC) is seeking a dedicated Emergency Veterinarian to join our collaborative, 24/7 emergency and specialty hospital. As a vital member of our emergency team, you’ll manage a wide variety of urgent and complex cases in a fast-paced, fully equipped facility. This position is ideal for someone who thrives under pressure, values teamwork, and is passionate about delivering compassionate, high-quality care.
Essential Functions
Provide emergency and critical care to small animal patients presenting with a variety of conditions
Triage, diagnose, and manage high-acuity medical and surgical cases
Develop and implement treatment plans quickly and accurately, with the support of skilled LVTs and VAs
Collaborate with other departments, including internal medicine, surgery, oncology, and radiology, for comprehensive patient care
Communicate effectively and empathetically with pet owners, especially during high-stress or emotionally difficult situations
Maintain accurate and timely medical records using Ezy Vet and Smart flow
Participate in case rounds, continuing education, and hospital-wide training opportunities
Contribute to the growth of our emergency department through input on protocols and patient care improvements
Requirements
Education and Experience
DVM or VMD degree from an accredited veterinary school (Required)
Emergency medicine experience preferred; internship-trained new graduates are encouraged to apply
Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of New York (Required)
Familiarity with AAHA guidelines and emergency care best practices
Board certification in emergency/critical care or another specialty is a plus, but not required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Confident and competent in making critical decisions under pressure
Strong diagnostic, clinical, and surgical skills for emergencies
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Commitment to teamwork and collaboration in a multi-specialty setting
Compassionate approach to client interactions and end-of-life care
Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of prioritizing cases during high-volume periods
Proficient in or willing to learn EMR systems (Ezy Vet and Smart flow)
